Next Lahaina Community Meeting to include update on King Kamehameha III School rebuild

A vital resource for those who are looking to rebuild in fire-affected areas in Lahaina and Kula as they navigate the permitting process and take the next step toward returning home.

Residents are encouraged to attend the County of Maui’s Lahaina Community Meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, at the Lahaina Intermediate School cafeteria.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • Information on the King Kamehameha III Elementary School rebuild from the Hawai‘i School Facilities Authority
  • Upcoming work related to restoration efforts in the Lahaina Royal Complex, presented by the County Department of ‘Ōiwi Resources
  • General Election information, including updating voter registration, by the Office of the County Clerk
  • Updates from the County Office of Recovery, including:
    • Details on the County’s Housing Navigator Program
    • Information shared at the recent Commercial Property Workshop
    • A new recovery directive that streamlines SMA permitting for qualified reconstruction makai of Front Street

In order to provide residents more individual assistance, representatives from several departments and agencies will be available to offer support at resource tables following a question-and-answer session to close the meeting. They include: the County of Maui’s Office of Recovery, Department of ‘Ōiwi Resources, Department of Planning, and Housing Navigator Program; 4LEAF; the Hawai‘i School Facilities Authority; Hawaiian Electric Co.; and Hoʻōla iā Mauiakama Disaster Long Term Recovery Group.

Usually held every first Wednesday of the month, the in-person Lahaina Community Meeting also will be livestreamed on the County of Maui’s Facebook page; no account is needed to view. A live broadcast of the meeting will also be shown on Akakū: Maui Community Media, Channel 53.
